Unique Learning
Children learn best in an environment where they feel safe, happy and stimulated. Our structure allows all boys and girls to experience creative and engaged programs that are age and gender appropriate.
PRE-PREP (4 YEAR OLD EARLY LEARNING)
Our Pre-Prep program differs greatly from that of kindergarten programs. The early learning curriculum is designed to build on each child’s individual strengthens or needs and is based on exploration, discovery and interactive play.
In a warm and caring environment, boys and girls gain experiences in art, frama, music, library, and physical education taught by specialist and professional staff. Most importantly, they commence the pre-reading and pre-numeracy progrms that continue into our junior schools.
JUNIOR SCHOOL (PREP TO YEAR 6)
From the moment they commence, the boys at Southwood and the girls at Tintern experience a welcoming and nurturing environment.
Located in their own single-gender schools, boys and girls learn how to listen and respect others, but most of all to think for themselves.
Separate boy and girl teaching spaces allow Tintern to deliver programs that are student-focused and respond to their individual learning needs. One example of this customized approach is illustrated in the boys’ Rock and Water program.
Designed especially for boys, its offers teachers a way of interacting with boys through physical-social teaching. The physical nature of the program directly appeals to boys boundless energy while developing their mental and social skills at the same time. Our girls undertake a different program, but the results are the same – resilient, independent thinkers.
Our dedicated teaching staff deliver (at both boys and girls junior schools) the highly acclaimed Letterland and Spalding programs to develop strong literacy and grammar skills which provide a solid foundations for all learning in Junior school. These effective and popular programs (customized for each gender and age level) captivate young students through the integration of literacy with music, mime imagination and stories.
To ensure every aspect of the child is developed, Junior School students are enriched through an extensive program of music, visual arts, drama, library, physical education (included swimming), school exchanges, information and communication technologies, and the Language Other Than English (LOTE) program.
Children are carefully monitored throughout all stages of Junior School to ensure they are reaching their true potential. Through parent information sessions, weekly newsletter, student record books, and parent-teacher interviews, parents are kept up-to-date with their child’s development and special activities with the School.
MIDDLE SCHOOL (YEAR 7 TO YEAR 9)
This is a significant time of change for boys and girls. They are developing in all areas of their lives – physically and intellectually. Tintern acknowledges that this time presents its own unique challenges and our Middle School programs are designed to meet the needs of each individual student.
As in Junior School, separate boy and girl teaching spaces provide a safe environment for learning and personal development. Teaching staff deliver programs that not only engage adolescent boys and girls but respond to age- and gender-related learning and development needs. Students in Middle School are introduced to a broad curriculum which allows students to explore new areas of interest at this important time of intellectual growth.

SMOOTH TRANSITION - YEAR 7
Some students look forward to the move from primary to secondary schools, others are less confident. Tintern supports the move with special programs to ensure all find the transition an enjoyable experience. To enhance a sense of security and belonging, in addition to their houses, boys and girls are places into groups different from their core classes, for subjects such as languages and visual arts. In this way they are able to extend friendship circles. The transition phase is helped by attending a camp early in Term One. This allows each child to develop self-confidence, and to make friendships in a relaxed atmosphere.
