Success at the Royal Melbourne Show

Tintern Schools has once again enjoyed success at The Royal Melbourne Show, with our Tinternwood Farm animals winning a swag of awards. Amongst the many awards received by Tinternwood, the school was particularly proud to receive Champion Ram, Champion Ewe and the Supreme sheep exhibit for the Romney Marsh breed.

In the Interbreed Longwool competition, Tinternwood won first place for Ram over one and a half years, third for Ewe over one and a half years, first for Ram under one and a half years and first for Ewe under one and a half years. The school also picked up second for both Ram and Ewe under one and a half years, shorn and also won the Champion Group of Three in the category.

The awards kept flowing in the wool competition, with Tintern taking home first and third for the fleece – and just missing out on Champion fleece

25 Tintern Schools Young Farmers helped to prepare and exhibit the sheep and lambs. Whilst the school might have been the only exhibitor with Romney Marsh sheep at the show, the judge, Keith McLauchlan, was quick to point out that those animals entered by Tintern Schools were of international show standard and he had nothing but praise for the Tintern Schools students and staff who participated in the Royal Melbourne Show. Once again we are reminded of the powerful learning opportunities that are provided through the Young Farmers program. It was a real pleasure for those members of the Tintern Schools community who attended the show to observe both Tintern and Southwood students, from a variety of year levels, working co operatively; assuming responsibility; providing care; accepting the judgement of others and facing challenges with confidence. All students were exemplary in their behaviour and presented their animals before the judges in a thoroughly professional way.

Over at the Arts and Crafts pavilion our Year 1 and 2 girls were enjoying their own success in the Primary School Photography competition. Entries were open to students up to Year 6 and under and our Tintern students took out all the places.

First was awarded to Chloe Kilroy of Year 2, second went to Lily Rose Munivrana of Year 1, third went to Elissa Wright of Year 2 and Zarah Brumley of Year 2 was awarded a commendation.

Congratulations to all our students on their success and sincere thanks to the members of the Tintern Schools staff who support, lead and encourage our students in these endeavours.
