THE PERFECT BALANCE OF ACADEMIC AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

Parallel Learning at Tintern

Our classes run on both co-educational and single gender settings according to the student’s age and stage. In the Early Learning Centre, our students begin their learning in a co-educational environment.

From Prep to Year 9, our students learn in single gender classes at an age when gender tends to play a greater role in influencing learning styles. This allows us to tailor our teaching methods to create optimal learning and pastoral environments to support each child. Our students feel more confident to be academically courageous and challenge themselves in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Students are re-introduced into co-educational classes in Years 10 to 12, when social development is an important part of their growth and maturation with the move to more inquiry based and independent learning, as they prepare for future study and work pathways.

At Tintern, we see parallel learning as a ‘best of both worlds’ approach because it offers single gender classes on a co-educational campus. Parallel learning acknowledges that the differing rates of physical, emotional, and psychological development between boys and girls can have an impact on their learning styles, however, it also understands that social interaction between genders is essential in developing well-adjusted young men and women.

Bradley Fry

Principal

Having both single gender and mixed classes run on a co-educational campus gives families the perfect balance between the academic and social development.
