On 18 May, on a beautiful and starry Saturday night, students, families and friends arrived all dressed up and ready to dance the night away. The parents in the Friends of Music committee had excelled themselves and the CM Wood Centre hall looked beautiful, with its distinctive colour theme of turquoise and silver. We had our own Senior and Intermediate Jazz Bands show off their impressive pieces, our choirs sang their hearts out, and we welcomed “Shifafa on the Side” to join us as our guest dance band this year. They definitely knocked it out of the park! Everyone was grooving, dancing and everything in between all night. They even invited a student to join them and sing ‘Dream a little dream’ (which was completely unplanned!). The band also starred a female drummer AND vocalist, which definitely impressed and inspired many of the young female drummers and vocalists at the event.

One of the highlights of the night was the award section. Every Jazz Night there are many awards handed out for leadership, passion for jazz, improvements and many other categories but there was one shining award which had the Senior Jazz Band buzzing! The Ron Trigg Jazz award is awarded to the musician who has improved significantly in their playing, has shown a great passion and drive for jazz and great leadership. This year the award was bestowed upon Aaron Zhou. Aaron is an impressive saxophone player and a truly deserving recipient of the award. The entire Senior Jazz Band was so incredibly proud of his achievements! We must thank the Friends of Music for all their hard work putting this event together. Overall the night was filled with laughter, dancing and music and if you haven’t been to one of our Jazz Nights before… come next year!!!
