Visual Art and Design

Empowering students to become confident, creative thinkers, ready and willing to express their ideas in a world where creativity and innovation is key.

Celebrating Creativity

We believe in celebrating, nurturing and exploring creativity at every stage. From ELC to Year 12, students are able to explore and participate in quality arts experiences that enriches social and emotional wellbeing. Art and Design fosters development of our imagination and enables us to reach our creative and intellectual potential.

Art and Design are core to the development of creative, confident, compassionate and resilient individuals who can think and reflect critically, celebrate and challenge ideas, people and events, and work towards making a difference in sustaining and reimagining their own and their communities’ futures. Recognition in our courses of the diverse and continuing cultures of First Nations Australians, collaborative work and exploring the world around us is key. Through the arts, people share stories, ideas, knowledge and understanding. The arts engage our senses and give us ways to imagine, celebrate, communicate and challenge ways of knowing, being, doing and becoming.

Our creative arts and design programs are integral in all year levels of the school and are showcased in formal exhibition events sharing their works with the community, such as the Junior School Art Show, ELC Art Show, Year 7 to 11 Art & Design Exhibition, where all students are celebrated. The educational journey culminates in our annual Senior Art VCE Art & Design Exhibition that is the celebration of the VCE folio components. These events foster a sense of reflection, inquiry and accomplishment, inspiring students to continue their artistic journey as part of lifelong learning.

Tintern offers an annual community-based Art experiences such as the 2023 10×10 Exhibition and the 2024 Room as a Loom projects, that invite the entire community to participate and celebrate the act of creativity. Art clubs and Horizon groups also take part in large scale projects that are showcased around the school, such as the mosaics, textile pieces and painted murals.

Tintern students discover the transformative power of Visual Arts and Design through not only the core Art and Design subjects from Prep to Year 8, but also in a wide range of electives that are supported by a dedicated, highly motivated and passionate staff, who are also talented practicing artists and designers. Our programs not only enrich the educational experience, but also empowers students to become confident, creative thinkers, ready and willing to express their ideas in a world where creativity and innovation is key. Students are encouraged to take risks with their creativity and explore a variety of materials and techniques such as assemblage, ceramics, painting, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, textiles and design. We also offer 3D Printing and laser cutting, as well as a dedicated Design Technology space that features an extensive woodwork workshop and purpose-built learning spaces.
