Friends of Music (FOM)

At Tintern Schools we are proud of our music students and we feel it is important to provide them with opportunities to perform and develop their talents and passion for music. Tintern Schools Friends of Music is a group of parents, staff and friends who are interested in providing support and encouragement to the school's music students and Music Department.

Each year the Friends of Music hold several major events, including Jazz Night and Munch with the Musos, as well as a number of smaller fundraising activities. These events allow us to contribute to the Tintern Schools Music Program, as well as bring the school's music community together in a social context.

Friends of Music has over the past few years been able to contribute to the music program by

  • Financing master classes and guest performers for the students
  • Providing tea and coffee at many school concerts
  • Helping with meals at the annual Music Camp
  • Painting the music foyer and
  • Purchasing, in conjunction with the School, a new Grand Piano for the use of the students.

Friends of Music also sponsors the Friends of Music Awards, awarded at Tintern and Southwood Speech Nights each year to a senior male and senior female music student who has made a substantial contribution to the school's music program, and the Ron Trigg Jazz Award, awarded each year on Jazz Night to a senior student who has been an enthusiastic advocate for jazz music within the school.  New members from both the Junior and Secondary Schools at both Tintern and Southwood are always welcome so please come along to our next meeting. Meetings are usually held on Tuesday evenings once a month during school terms. If you are interested in attending a meeting or making contact with the Friends of Music, please contact Mrs Di Lacey in the Community Relations Office on 9845 7877 or email development@tinternschools.vic.edu.au.
