On Sunday afternoon, Tintern Grammar held its Annual Cathedral Service in St Paul’s Cathedral. Students donned their winter uniform and made their way into the city, for the service beginning at 2.30pm. This year’s theme was “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want” and this was encapsulated in the Senior Girls’ Chamber Choir’s rendition of a hymn with the same name, featuring Molly Fleming as the soloist.

The sermon was presented by Bishop Lindsay Urwin, who asked us all to consider the difference between what we want versus what we need. He also warned us of the existence of ‘false shepherds’.

The service was also very musical. The massed congregation of Tintern’s community sang hymns including “In Christ Alone” and “Make Me a Channel of Your Peace”. There were also performances by the school’s Chamber Orchestra, Senior Boys Chamber Choir, Senior Girls Chamber Choir and Clarinet Ensemble.

One highlight of Sunday afternoon was the massed singing of Sister Act 2’s “Joyful, Joyful” performed by the combined Intermediate and Senior choirs. Ella Watt, Madi Edwards-Turner and several other students from Years 7 to 12 sang solos in this uplifting gospel song. The school leaders lead the community in prayer and supported the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre with the offering.
